Remember to accept your admission offer

Qualified applicants receive an offer of admission. The offer is usually sent during the first week after the application deadline to the email address you provided in the application portal Søknadsweb. Remember to monitor your email/Søknadsweb so you do not miss the response deadline. You MUST accept the admission offer to be registered as a student.

Your information in Studentweb

Studentweb is where you can find information related to your student status at NIH. It is also where you provide your contact information so we can reach you.

In Studentweb you will find, among other things:

  • Your profile (contact information)
  • Status of semester registration
  • Your education plan
  • Active courses: Overview of the courses you are currently enrolled in
  • Result overview
  • Link to the diploma portal
  • Documents sent from NIH to you
  • Invoice for semester registration

Transcript of records

The diploma portal is the formal and safe site where you can find and download your transcript of records. It is possible to access this portal via Studentweb.

Semester registration - your responsibility as a student

Every semester all students must register in Studentweb to maintain an active student status. Information regarding registration is sent to all students via email, and it is important that registration is completed within the given deadlines, usually in the middle of August for the fall semester and at the beginning of December for the spring semester. Exact dates are provided in the email information and are also available in Studentweb.

It is your responsibility as a student to ensure that you register within the deadline.

Semester registration involves:

  • Signing up for the courses you wish to take in the current semester
  • Paying the semester fee
  • Confirming that you are aware of NIH's regulations and your rights and responsibilities as a student
  • Approving your education plan

The education plan is an overview of the courses you plan to take. Make sure you are registered for both class and assessment. To access the digital learning rooms of each course in the digital learning platform Canvas, you must be registered for class.

If you have questions related to semester registration or student status,  contact ses@nih.no.

Four semester admission

When you accept the admission offer as an online student, you are granted four semester admission at NIH. During this period, you do not need to reapply to take online courses. However, remember that you must register each semester to maintain your admission and active student status.

If you do not wish to keep the admission for all four semesters, please notify ses@nih.no to terminate your admission period. After terminating your admission period, you can later reapply if you wish.

Semester fee

The semester fee is a mandatory contribution to the Student welfare organization SiO. Payment information can be found in Studentweb. The semester fee for the academic year 2024/25 is NOK 930, including NOK 200 for the Kopinor fee. NOK 40 of the semester fee goes to The Norwegian Students' and Academics' International Assistance Fund. The fee to SAIH is voluntary. Please be aware that it may take several business days for your payment to be registered in our systems.

If you pay the semester fee at another college/university in Norway, you are exempt from this fee with us. Documentation (bank statement or confirmation from the institution) must be uploaded in the online form for exemption within the payment deadline for the semester fee at NIH. Note that you still have to pay the Kopinor fee for digital articles and copying at NIH.

Tuition fee

Students with citizenship from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland, must pay tuition fees to NIH, unless they qualify for an exemption.

Student welfare organization SiO

The semester fee gives you membership in SiO. SiO has many great student offers and we especially encourage you to take note of the health services they provide.

To ensure a safe start to your studies, SiO has created a Good Start video. It provides useful tips and advice on how to get the best possible start to your studies.

Online studies and Lånekassen

Online studies at NIH are eligible for grant and loans by the same rules as other education programs. The online studies are categorized as part-time studies by Lånekassen. Contact Lånekassen directly if you have inquiries about your possibilities for loans and grants for online studies.

Student identification

To obtain a valid student identification (ID) on your mobile, you must have completed the semester registration. The mobile student ID can be used to get student discounts on, for example, transport with Ruter and Vy (a screenshot of the app is not valid).

If you want a physical student card, you need to visit the service desk at NIH in person during daytime hours (the service desk is also open in the afternoon, but student cards are not issued at that time). Remember to bring valid identification.

Read more about student ID and student cards.

Schedule

The schedule provides information about classes and assessment. For online students, the schedule shows the opening times of the digital learning room and assessment deadlines. The schedule is published for one academic year at a time (fall semester + spring semester).

You can search for the schedule for your course by entering the course code and the correct semester in the search field, for example, THP111_2026 FALL.

Digital learning platform

NIH uses the digital learning platform Canvas, where you as an online student will find all the resources you need to follow the course. In cases where other digital tools/platforms are used, you will always find information about this in Canvas with a link to the site.

Make sure you become well acquainted with Canvas to get the best possible learning outcome from the course. We recommend that you activate notifications for important events such as announcements and assessments. You do this by clicking on "Account" at the top left and then on notifications. You can choose between email notifications or push notifications in the app.

Help sites for digital platforms/login issues

The IT department at NIH has created several pages with information and tips about the various websites you need to be familiar with as a student, including help sites for login problems:

Guides - Norwegian School of Sport Sciences

IT User Support - Norwegian School of Sport Sciences

Username and Password - Norwegian School of Sport Sciences

Opening of digital course rooms

August 10 for the fall semester. December 20 for the spring semester.

Note that the opening of the course room does not necessarily mean that teaching resources are available, but you will have access to the first presentation page of the course.

Course descriptions

See the overview of available online courses. By clicking on the individual course code, you will find a longer course description that includes a description of learning outcomes, assessment methods, and any work requirements of the course. The descriptions also provide information on whether the course is offered in the fall semester and/or spring semester.

Assessment

Beyond what is stated in the course description, you will receive messages and information from the course coordinators in the digital learning platform about the requirements and assessment for each course.

It is important that you familiarize yourself with the guidelines well in advance of submissions and exams, this includes familiarizing yourself with what you need to do if you cannot submit, become ill, or fail an exam. Read important information about assessment and exams at NIH.

Study counselling

Do you have questions and would like counselling related to your studies?

Special arrangements and facilitation

We want everyone to succeed in their studies. If you have disabilities and special needs, we will help you to adapt your study environment as much as possible. Many challenges can be resolved through good dialogue, so we encourage you to contact us in the department of academic affairs as early as possible if this is relevant for you.

Learning Environment

Through your online classes, you will meet enthusiastic and knowledgeable lecturers. The library service can support students in, among other things, literature searches and source references.

Also, see the main student site for more information on everything from practical matters to social activities.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

All students at NIH have access to three different AI-based services, which cover slightly different needs.

Campus in Oslo

As an online student, you are also welcome to use the facilities at NIH if you obtain a physical student card. NIH is easily accessible by public transport in Oslo, with the beautiful Nordmarka nearby.

You also have the opportunity to participate in various activities organized by student associations.

Feedback sites

To maintain a good learning environment, we depend on your feedback. We therefore have created a "Speak Up" site where you can let us know should you have any concerns.

Sikresiden.no is a site for Norwegian universities, colleges, and research institutions, which describes:

  • What you can do yourself in unwanted situations
  • Where you can get help
  • How you can contribute to preventing unwanted incidents

Parking

During the daytime, students and staff can park for free in NIH's parking area, if they register with Park Nordic. See the parking site for more information.

Insurance

As a student, you do not have individual insurance through NIH, but Norwegian citizens are insured under the National Insurance Act.
