Background and experience
Ellen Berg is employed as an associate professor in physical education and sports at the Department of Teacher Education and Outdoor Studies.
Berg is trained as a lecturer in physical education and sports at HINN (formerly Elverum Teacher College). She has completed the first and second part of special needs education with a focus on physical disabilities at UiO and holds a master's degree in sports science with a specialization in sports pedagogy from NIH.
Berg has worked as a physical education and sports teacher, and department head in upper secondary school, and has 20 years of experience as a special educator/sports educator at TRS Competence Center for Rare Diagnoses at Sunnaas Hospital.
Berg holds a PhD in sports science from NIH since 2013, where the topic of her dissertation was inclusive physical education for students with physical disabilities. The book 'Physical Education - Space for Everyone' published by Fagbokforlaget in 2021 is based on findings from the doctoral study and recent research.
In further work, she is particularly focused on the student-teacher relationship, recognition, and interaction as the foundation for developing an inclusive physical education subject. Interprofessional work, and how various actors both within and outside the school arena affect the student's participation and learning in physical education, is central here.
