About the program
This is a two-year, part-time, fully online Executive Master’s program in Sports Medicine. The program comprises a total of 90 ECTS credits. Of these, 20 ECTS credits are granted on the basis of completed and passed learning outcomes from the IOC Diploma in Sports Medicine, while the remaining 70 ECTS credits consist of 10 ECTS credits in Statistics and Methodology and a 60 ECTS Master’s Thesis.
The program is designed to allow candidates to combine their studies with professional work. During the thesis period, students will work independently and in collaboration with a supervisor or supervisory team to plan, conduct, and report their research project. Applicants are encouraged to begin considering a potential project idea or research topic before starting the program.
Online study
This program is fully online. Candidates may study from wherever it is most suitable for them, and there is no requirement for physical attendance at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. The statistics and methodology component will be delivered online, and the oral defence of the master’s thesis will also be conducted online.
Master Thesis
The master’s thesis is an individual assignment. However, students may use parts of a shared dataset drawn from a larger collaborative project, provided that the student’s own contribution is clearly defined and documented. The principal supervisor must be employed at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. In addition, each candidate must have a local supervisor affiliated with the project at their home institution or in their home country. The local supervisor must hold a PhD and must be formally approved by the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences.
Applicants must, within three months of admission, submit an abstract outlining the planned conduct of the project, together with the name of the proposed local supervisor. At an early stage of the project, students must also submit a project description and obtain the required ethical approvals. These must be in place before data collection can begin. The thesis may be submitted either as a monograph or as an article-based thesis. Students will receive supervision throughout the process.
Payment
The tuition fee will be divided into four installments, one for each semester, but it can also be paid in full before the start of the program. The first installment must be paid before the program begins, and payment of the first installment is required in order to secure admission.
The Norwegian School of Sport Sciences do not offer any grants or scholarships.
