Introduction

This module is designed to contribute to the development of students' competence in higher education teaching. It stimulates a comprehensive understanding and lays the foundation for the continuous improvement of one's own teaching practices. The module is based on each student's specific teaching practices, integrating theory, research, personal experience, and practice to develop a unique practice theory.

Learning outcomes

Upon completing the course, the student should be able to:

  • Plan, justify, assess, document, and develop their own teaching practice in light of relevant theory and research, aligning with academic goals and current governance documents.
  • Critically reflect on and discuss colleagues' teaching practices and learning.

Learning methods and activities

The course is scheduled for the spring semester and will encompass diverse and practice-based teaching and learning methods. The central focus is on exploring and developing one's own teaching practices through critical reflection, sharing experiences, and peer mentoring.

The course will be organized as follows:

  • Start on Monday and Friday in week 2: This will involve preparations and work both between and after the two days.
  • Individual development work: Between the start and conclusion, students will conduct individual development work related to their own teaching practices, including peer mentoring.
  • Conclusion on Wednesday in week 24: This will involve presenting individual development work, critical reflection, and providing feedback on peers' development work.
  • Reflective essay: See assessment/exam.

For this course, students are expected to dedicate a total study effort of at least 60 hours. This includes approximately 12 hours of on-campus teaching, 10 hours of peer mentoring, and 46 hours of self-study, which involves planning, assessment, and documentation of individual development work.

Work requirements

  • Mandatory attendance at plenary sessions.
  • Completed peer mentoring.

The requirements will be assessed as approved/not approved.

Assessment/exam

Requirements must be approved to be eligible for assessment. The assessment will be conducted through a reflective essay in which the student is required to document the achieved learning outcomes. The essay should have a minimum length of 2000 words, where the student document their development project.
