NIH is Certified as an Eco-Lighthouse

We are actively working to reduce the school's carbon footprint and will contribute to sustainable development through «Green NIH», education, and research.

We are passionate about sustainability.

We aim to reduce our CO2 emissions by flying less and to increase the recycling rate of the waste we produce.

Environmental Certification

Eco-Lighthouse is a Norwegian environmental certification scheme for companies and organizations. It helps businesses work systematically with environmental issues and sustainability. The certification is recognized both nationally and in the EU. A growing number of universities and colleges have the Eco-Lighthouse certification.

Requirements

An organization must meet specific criteria in areas such as working environment, procurement, energy, transport, waste, and emissions. NIH documented compliance with 77 different requirements during the process.

Certification

In June 2025, NIH met the requirements and was awarded Eco-Lighthouse certification.

Continuous Improvement

NIH reports annually on environmental performance and renews the certification every three years. A specific action plan has been created for the areas where NIH wishes to continue working.

Green NIH

"Green NIH" outlines our specific work on climate and sustainability. Read more about organization, activities, reporting and involvement.

Environmental Reports and Certification

As part of being certified as an environmental eco lighthouse, NIH is obligated to submit a number of measurable targets in various areas by April 1st each year. Following this, the board is informed of the status in an annual report
