Join us for an informal evening of networking and relaxation. The barbecue begins at 18:00 outside the NIH cafeteria and concludes at 22:00. From 16:30, the bar will be open, and The Mighty Quark will be spinning records to set the mood for the evening.
June 18th - Opening reception at Oslo City Hall
Oslo Municipality is delighted to welcome you to an official opening reception at Oslo City Hall, located at Rådhusplassen, in the heart of Oslo. Since 1990, the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded here—making this a unique and symbolic venue.
The reception starts promptly at 18:00. We strongly encourage all participants to arrive well in advance—by 17:30—and to avoid bringing large bags or backpacks.
Please note:
- Security checks will be conducted at the entrance.
- A cloakroom will be available from 17:30.
- You must bring your invitation, which serves as your admission ticket.
Program
- Welcome speech by the Mayor of Oslo
- Speech by Provost Lars Tore Ronglan, NIH
- Serving of food and drinks, with mingling opportunities
- Guided tour of Oslo City Hall
After the reception at City Hall, we’ll stroll over to Prindsen Hage for drinks and conversation, approximately around 8 pm.
June 19th - Conference dinner at Gressholmen kro
Enjoy a memorable evening at Gressholmen kro, a charming summer restaurant on the island of Gressholmen, with a history dating back to 1930. The island is a 16-minute ferry ride from the city centre.
We will meet at Rådhusbryggen, Platform E (on the seaside of Oslo City Hall) at 18:20 and take the public ferry to Gressholmen. Ferries depart every 30 minutes. Use the Ruter app to plan your journey and purchase tickets. If you already have a valid ticket for bus/tram/metro, it also covers the ferry.
The dinner begins at 19:00 and will take place indoors, but the restaurant has a great outdoor terrace, and although the weather forecast is good, it's probably a good idea to bring a jacket and a warm sweater. If you would like to go for a swim, bring a bathing suit and a towel.
The ferry back to Oslo leaves at 22:02, 22:21, 23:31 and 00:41.
Training, outdoor and sport activities
There are excellent opportunities for training and outdoor activities both on and around campus. NIH is surrounded by forests with extensive biking, running, and hiking trails. Lake Sognsvann, just nearby, is perfect for a swim.
Campus Gym: Open 07:00–21:30 (Mon–Fri), and 09:00–17:30 (Sat–Sun). Key cards available at the reception. Remember to return the card after your training session.
Sports hall, gymnasiums, and swimming pool: Available for use when not reserved for teaching or research. Contact a conference organiser if interested.
Orienteering: Weekly courses are set by lecturer Magne Lund-Hansen. Ask for a map at the reception.
5-a-side Football: Typically played Mon/Wed/Fri 15:00–16:00. While this conflicts with the conference, we can arrange a session – contact Christian Thue Bjørndal (christiab@nih.no).
Mini-tennis: Available upon request with coach and lecturer Peter Eriksson (petere@nih.no).
Beach Volleyball: Available upon request with coach and lecturer Christian Helland (christianh@nih.no).
Locker rooms and showers are available on campus.
