Background and experience
Josef Fahlén works as an adjunct professor (Professor II) at the Department of Sport and Social Sciences. In his research, he explores the intersection between the governance and organization of sport, examining how policies related to sport are developed, implemented, and evaluated, as well as how these processes—along with broader societal influences—affect the organization of sporting activities within clubs, federations, and self-organized contexts.
A common ambition across these research questions is to shed light on how political governance, leadership, and organization have real consequences for the practice of sport, particularly in terms of power and resource distribution, as well as the prioritization of different types of activities and target groups. This ambition is currently reflected in two research projects:
1. Trans-sporting the understanding of gender – the transformative effects of transgender inclusion.
2. Bowling separately or bowling together – an investigation of organization in Sámi sport
