It is unnecessary to save your password here. Select Not for this site in the lower right corner. Select the download link that matches your operating system. Most Windows users have a 64 bit OS. If you choose the wrong one you will get an error message (no harm done).
You should then see a page looking something like this. Select Run:
The setup program will start - select Next in the following three dialog windows without making any changes:
After a while this page should come up. Click Close:
a) The client will start automatically. Write vpn.nih.no below "Please enter your portal address", then click Connect:
NB! If you are running a newer macOS (like High Sierra), follow additional steps b and c. If not, jump to step 8.
At some point during the installation you may be asked to accept a certificate for vpn.nih.no. Confirm this.
b) (macOS) Click Open Security Preferences:
c) (macOS) Select Allow (or Tillat) to grant an exception for Palo Alto Networks:
Write your username (without domain name) and password:
When this pop up, you are connected via VPN and can access NIH's resources:
At the bottom right of the screen (on the system bar), you will have an icon (globe) that shows whether you are connected or not. In Windows it looks like this:
