Reliability and validity of Chair-stand and Box-lift test for elderly subjects.
19 subjects (73.0+5.0 years) participated in the study. The number of unsupported chair stand repetitions in the 30 second Chair Stand test (CSfield) by Rikli and Jones (1999) was compared with calculated average power during single, “fast as possible” sit to stand movements performed on a force platform (CSlab). Maximal lifted load in A modified version of the Progressive Isoinertial Lifting Evaluation test (PILEfield) by Mayer et al. (1988) was compared with peak power directly measured with linear encoder attached to the box during single, “fast as possible” box lifting trials (PILElab).

63 subjects (69.9+4.1 years) were randomized to a high power strength group (Hpsg), a functional strength group (fsg), or a non- randomized control group (CG). Data were collected using force platform and linear encoder. The training dosage was 2x.wk-1, 3 sets x 8 reps for 11 weeks.
Level of physical activity and activity patterns in a national sample of Norwegian elderly based on objective and subjective data from the kan study.
560 subjects (71.8+5.6 years and 71.7+5.2 years for females and males, respectively) participated. This study is a part of the KAN study, a national multicenter study involving 10 university colleges in Norway. Participants were randomly selected from the national population registry. The ActiGraph GT1M (ActiGraph, LLC, Pensacola, FL) was used to assess the participant’s level of physical activity for seven consecutive days, in addition the participants filled out a physical activity questionnaire.

25% of the subjects who participated in the screening of physical activity, went through a test battery for physical fitness. In this study it is interesting to look at the association of the participants (65-85 years) activity level (based on the methods described above) and their physical fitness.
