Cultural and Social Studies

The department’s areas of academic competence are sport sociology, history of sport, philosophy of sport, sport management, sport and development studies.

The Department of Cultural and Social Studies has a complex academic environment that teaches and researches in several different fields of study. These subjects are mainly sports sociology, history and philosophy, sports management, and sports, culture and development cooperation.

The Department of Cultural and Social Studies conducts teaching and research based on social sciences and humanities. This entails a perspective where sport is interpreted as an arena and a field of
practice for the conception and transformation of meaning, identity and values. Our research focuses on social and institutional structures as well as on individual experience and action. Researchers at our department have contributed to the NIH-blog about these topics.

Teaching

The department offers teaching at both bachelor and master's level, as well as courses in methodology and the theory of science at the bachelor to doctoral level. Research

Our department covers a wide range of research topics. These include sports as socio-cultural phenomena, sports organization, sports and youth / identity, sports and gender and sports and values ​​/ ethics. The department has several interdisciplinary projects related to these topics.
