Explanation of grades
In case examinations and other submissions are conducted and/or delivered via WISEflow (WF) and the subsequent grade is given through WF, grade explanation requests must be submitted in WF. The deadline for explanation requests is available in WF, and it is not possible to submit such requests after the stated deadline.
If examinations and other submissions are done outside WF, a special request form is used in order to submit a grade explanation request. The deadline to submit such a form is one (1) week after the relevant grade is published in Studentweb.
You have to submit your request as your own request form (you can find it under ¨Begrunnelse på karakter¨ (explanation of a grade) and ¨Begrunnelse på karakter på gruppeeksamen¨ (explanation of a grade for a group exam)) within one (1) week from the day the grade was published. The form is submitted on paper at ¨Servicetorget¨ or by email to eksamen@nih.no.
Grade explanations are sent out within two (2) weeks after the deadline for explanation request submission. If you have requested a grade explanation, the deadline to submit a grade appeal is then within three (3) weeks from the day you received the explanation.
Grade explanations are sent out within two (2) weeks after the deadline for explanation request submission. Explanations for written exams are issued in a written form.
In case of oral and practical examinations the explanations are given directly to the academic responsible after you have received your grade. It is not possible to appeal the grades for oral and practical examinations.
If you have requested a grade explanation, you can submit an appeal from the day you received the explanation.
Grade appeals
You have the right to appeal the results of your examinations. You appeal by filling out and submitting a special form (you can find it under ¨Klage på karakter¨ (appeal a grade) and ¨Klage på karakter på gruppeeksamen¨ (appeal a grade from a group exam)). The form must be delivered to ¨Servicetorget¨. The appeal form must be submitted within three (3) weeks after the grade is published in Studentweb. In case of a group exam all members of the group must sign the appeal. You will receive the result of your appeal within four (4) weeks after the appeal submission deadline.
Under reassessment new examiners are assigned to your case, out of which at least one will be external. The new examiners will completely reassess your work. They do not receive any information about the original grade, your reasons for appealing the grade, or the explanations of your grade. It is possible that after reassessment the grade will be changed. Please note that in some cases a ¨pass¨ grade can be changed to a ¨fail¨ grade.
You cannot appeal grades for oral examinations, practical training or other forms of assessment where the student’s performance cannot be verified after submission.
If you appeal a grade during the semester you graduate (i.e. get a diploma for a finished educational program), the diploma must be returned before your appeal can be processed. In such cases you must deliver the original diploma together with the appeal form.
The new grade you receive after reassessment cannot be appealed, according to Norwegian Act relating to universities and university colleges (§ 5-3 nr. 6).
