Hilde Rustad is a postdoctoral researcher at The Norwegian school for sport sciences. Her PhD thesis is on improvisation, dance improvisation and contact improvisation. She does research on dance in physical education, and in physical education teacher education. Rustad's other main field of interest is the professional dance field, and she researches and writes about dancer identity, contact improvisation, improvisation and 'dance and age'.
Rustad has a Nordic master of arts in dance studies from the Norwegian university of science and technology. She is educated dancer and choreographer at the Amsterdam School of the Arts, School for new dance development. Rustad works as researcher and freelance dance artist, and performs and teaches in Norway and abroad. She has been editor of the Nordic Journal of Dance, and she is Chair of the Nordic Forum for Dance Research, NOFOD (www.nofod.org). Rustad is part of the Russian-Nordic group "After Contemporary" and holds a part time position as associate professor at The Norwegian college of dance in Oslo
