May is educated mainly from NIH, with a background in physical activity and health and physical education. She has a cand scient degree in measuring physical activity among children and adolescents (2001), and a PhD in preventing childhood obesity. Her doctoral work was a school-based intervention study (RCT) on the effect of increased physical activity and a healthy diet on weight development in children and adolescents in Norway (the HEIA study). May has previously worked as a PE teacher, as an adviser in the Norwegian Directorate of Health and as an associate professor at Oslo and Akershus University College. May has been an associate professor at NIH, Department of Physical Performance, since 2014.
