May is educated mainly from NIH, with a background in physical activity and health and physical education. She has a cand scient degree in measuring physical activity among children and adolescents (2001), and a PhD in preventing childhood obesity. Her doctoral work was a school-based intervention study (RCT) on the effect of increased physical activity and a healthy diet on weight development in children and adolescents in Norway (the HEIA study). May has previously worked as a PE teacher, as an adviser in the Norwegian Directorate of Health and as an associate professor at Oslo and Akershus University College. May has been an associate professor at NIH / SFP since 2014.
