Derrick Charway is a PhD. research fellow at the Department of sport and social sciences. Charway had education from the University of Ghana (2005-2009), University of the Western Cape, South Africa (2014-2015) and Seoul National University, South Korea (2016-2018) where he graduated with BA. Psychology with Sociology, Post Grad. diploma in Sport for Development and MA. Sport Management respectively. Charway came to the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences with a 10-year experience in project/sport management, sport for development and research. He first worked at the Sport Directorate of University of Ghana as head of Research and Project Unit from 2009 to 2019.
As part of the International Inspiration (London 2012 Games legacy), Charway coordinated different projects for UK Sport International programmes in Ghana such as the Beckwith International Leadership Development (BILD) and International Development through Excellence and Leadership in Sport (IDEALS) from 2011 to 2014. Charway has also had internship at the South Korean Handball Federation (2018) and volunteered as a community coach for Football4Peace International (sport for development and peace) programmes in The Gambia (2015) and South Korea (2016-2018).
