The school wishes to attract a higher number of international students to NSSS. As a result, the school has expanded its portfolio of courses available in English and now offers three individual courses within Sport Management:

1) Sport Events and Volunteering

2) International Organizations of Sport

3) Comparative Research Project,

Each course is valued as a 10 credit course. The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is followed when defining the credit value for each course. Together, these three courses satisfy the demanded workload for one semester.

More about the three courses:

Sports Events and Volunteering

This course provides understanding of important aspects related to major sporting events. It examines how organizers of sports events bid for, plan, implement, and evaluate the sporting event. How the Olympic Games is carried out, with special attention to the Olympic Winter Games held in Norway, will be addressed as well.

The significance of the involved parties (e.g. sponsors, media, and public authorities) will be presented and discussed. All kind of sports events depend on voluntarism. The course illustrates how voluntary work "dugnad" is organized in Norway compared with sports events in other countries. Here, the focus of the course will be the importance of voluntary work in organizing successful sports events.

International Organizations of Sport

The starting point of this course is the fact that international organizations and international cooperation are having a greater impact than ever on the organization of sport within national societies. International organizations and their roles in the sport area will be described.

The course will examine the functions not just of international sport bodies such as the IOC, but also international organizations such as the EU and UN. An overall goal is to locate sport within an international context.

Comparative Research Project

The course provides the students with an opportunity to identify, explore, compare and reflect on a topic of special interest in sport management, by developing a research project. The project should address one or more of the following: cultural, historical, or political organizational issues for sport management, and be a comparison between the student’s home country and the situation in Norway.
