Part-time studies
NSSS is offering several part-time studies. For the time being all of these are offered in the Norwegian language only. You will find a brief description of the various courses on offer below.
Coaches Education Program for future elite coaches of young athletes
The main objective is to enable students to develop young promising athletes to elite athletes. The main subjects are top-level athletics and talent development, sports psychology, roles in coaching, methods and principles of training. The programme gives 60 ECTS credits within the timeframe of two years. This programme is a co-operation between NSSS and Olympiatoppen.

Coaching
The main objective is to enable students to support learning and development processes on all levels of Norwegian sport. The main subjects of the first part are coaching with emphasis on individual coaching and one-on-one relations. The second part will give more attention to group- and team coaching. The programme is a co-operation between NSSS and The Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports). Each part will amount to 15 ECTS credits and the duration is six months.

Fitness
The main objective is to provide students with skills and knowledge necessary to work as an instructor in the fitness industry (health clubs and training centres in particular). The programme consists of several smaller courses available in a mix-and-match fashion. The courses span from the mandatory basic fitness course with anatomy and sports physiology as main subjects, to personal trainer, studio cycling, nutrition and training, training for seniors, training for groups with special needs, aerobics instructor and more. Courses provided will amount to either 5 or 10 ECTS credits each, with duration ranging from 5 to 8 weeks.

Outdoor life
The main objective is to develop skills and knowledge necessary to plan and carry out excursions with groups. This includes skills and knowledge about how to use various local environments in different seasons. Other subjects include history, environmental issues and outdoor life in a cultural perspective. First and second part of Outdoor life will amount 30 ECTS credits each, and the duration of each course is one year.

Physical education
The main objective is to provide teachers at all levels with the qualifications necessary to teach physical education. The main subjects in the first part include theoretical and practical sports subjects, ball skills, outdoor life and the art of being in motion, skating, indoor bandy, didactics, physical activity for the disabled, dance, indoor activities and swimming. Main subjects in part two include biomechanics, anatomy, sports physiology and psychology. The course also covers sports history, sociology and philosophy. First and second part will amount a total of 60 ECTS credits within the timeframe of two years.

Sports shooting management
The main objective for the course is to increase knowledge and skill for students interested in sports shooting with emphasis on the Olympic programs for rifle, pistol and shot gun. The main subjects are sports shooting in a historic perspective, range officer skills, teaching psychology and roles for the shooting coach. The course covers also military international shooting within “Conseil International du Sport Militaire” and Norwegian national rifle programs. The total study gives 60 ECTS credits within the timeframe of two years. The students need to attend in a total of 18 long weekends filled with leadership tasks and shooting activity where certain training objectives have to be met.
