Gaute Heyerdahl is post doctor in sports history at the Department of Culture and Society, Norway School of Sports Sciences. He was awarded his PhD in December 2016 with a dissertation on the Winter Olympics in Oslo (1952) and Lillehammer (1994). He received his Master's Degree at NTNU in 2007 with a thesis on the EU's fisheries policy, and wrote books about student sport and angling before joining NIH in 2010.
Heyerdahl is currently working on a project on commercialization and professionalization of Norwegian sports in the period 1970–2000.
